Meltdown!
The Impact of the Subprime Crisis on Professional and General Liability

Wednesday, August 13
8:30 - 10:30 A.M.
Breakfast begins at 7:30 A.M.
The PLI California Conference Center
685 Market Street San Francisco, CA

SPEAKERS;
Karen Clopton, general counsel, California Department of Corporations
Sean Simpson, partner, Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP
Scott Meyer, President - Financial Institutions, AIG Executive Liability

The subprime mortgage industry and its calamitous consequences shredded the international credit markets, destroyed billions of dollars in capital (much of that illusory value created by the steroids of the subprime industry), popped the national real estate bubble and initiated record numbers of foreclosures.

The program will focus on the professional and general liability claims (advertising injury, lender liability, professional liability, misrepresentation, fraud & deceit, civil conspiracy, unfair business practices, etc.) that are likely to be brought against the “main street” providers who dealt with the public. These providers include mortgage brokers, mortgage lenders, appraisers, real estate brokers, title insurers, escrow agents, attorneys, and so on.

The program will also look at the underwriting that was done for this insurance, insurance coverage issues for the liability claims, and the effect on the insurance marketplace. And how the California and other regulators are addressing the problems.
